The naked man who was shot dead by police while high on drugs and eating the face of another man has been revealed as 31-year-old Rudy Eugene.
Mr Eugene's victim remains in a critical condition in a Miami hospital with serious injuries to his face.
The victim, who has not been identified but is thought to be a homeless man, is missing most of the skin on his face, his nose has been bitten and his eyes gouged.
It's believed there is little more than a goatee left on his face.
"We're hoping that he pulls through, for his well-being, but also so he can tell us what happened," said Sgt. Javier Ortiz, vice president of the Miami police union said, "Only he knows."
A witness who rode his bicycle past the scene said he saw Mr Eugene biting on the victim’s face, before he flagged down a police car.
"The guy just stood, his head up like that, with pieces of flesh in his mouth. And he growled," the witness told a local news station.
Police have released more information about the moment Mr Eugene was shot to death.
The unidentified officer fired once at Mr Eugene, who continued chewing on the victim’s face, forcing the officer to open fire five more times, killing Mr Eugene instantly.
"It's one of the most gruesome things I've ever seen in my life in person," the witness said.
Police are unsure what sparked the attack, but believe Mr Eugene may have taken a potent new form of LSD, or may have been high on bath salts.
"I wouldn't say he had mental problem but he always felt like people was against him... No one was for him, everyone was against him," his ex-wife told a local news station.
Police have revealed Mr Eugene was known to them, after he was arrested seven times in five years, including on a battery charge when he was just 16.
