A Michigan 911 dispatcher helped a frantic couple deliver their baby girl over the phone while the woman was in labor.

On Sunday, Dec. 29, Cidnee Schramm, a Macomb County Sheriff's Office 911 dispatcher, answered a call for assistance at 5:42 a.m. local time from a man who said that his wife had gone into labor, CBS affiliate WWJ-TV reported.

The man explained to Schramm that his wife’s contractions were less than a minute apart and her water broke. “I kind of knew right away something was going to happen before the fire department could get there,” Schramm told the outlet.

While on the call with the parents-to-be, Schramm said she guided the man into delivering his daughter — carefully instructing him where to place his hand once he was able to see the baby during delivery.

"It's much easier said than done, but keep as much cool as you possibly can in that situation," Schramm told WWJ-TV.

She also recalled to the outlet that following the birth, she told him to make sure he removed any fluid from his daughter’s mouth and explained how he should stimulate the baby's breathing.

Representatives from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Schramm stayed on the phone with the new parents until the Clinton Township Fire Department arrived on the scene.
