Andrew and Ale Kenney – a couple who are passengers on the Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise – shared that they were evacuated from the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa in Iceland due to a volcanic eruption on Thursday, Aug. 22.

According to Forbes, the latest eruption is the sixth time the area has reported a volcanic eruption over the last year.

The couple shared the scary update and their evacuation experience on Instagram and TikTok. In the video, Andrew said that “the volcano fire alarm is going off” and that they “were at the hot springs” at the time.

In another video, Ale added that it was “a bit of a terrifying experience” as she walked out of the lagoon to safety.

“It’s pretty terrifying for that alarm to go off when you’re way in the back of the pool,” she continued. “They rushed us and we’re still soaking wet.” Andrew said that they were told, “Don’t even change, don’t even shower,” while they were evacuated.

“We didn’t pay and we had balances and everything and they’re like ‘just go, get out.’ ”

He also added that according to the staff, “last time [an eruption] happened, it took five hours to get over here, so time is on our side." The video then switched to a view of the eruption taking place as the couple drove out to safety. They pulled over to take some other videos of the lava bubbling up as Ale said, "This is crazy."

The couple eventually got back to the cruise.
