85% of Ukrainians consider Putin illegitimate - poll

85% of Ukrainians endorse the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s resolution urging member states to denounce Vladimir Putin’s legitimacy following the alleged fraudulent 2024 elections and cease communication with him, according to a report from the Razumkov Center on April 18.

It is noted that 85.2% of respondents support this position of PACE, 5.2% do not support it and 9.6% could not decide on answer.

At the same time, 88% of Ukrainians who speak mostly Ukrainian at home and 78% of those who mostly speak Russian support recognizing Putin as illegitimate. Only 3% and 9% of them do not support this decision, respectively.

The study surveyed 2020 respondents aged 18 and older who live in government-controlled areas of Ukraine where no hostilities are taking place. Theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%. Additional systematic sample deviations may be caused by effects of Russian agression.

MP Oleksiy Honcharenko said that Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe does not officially recognize the legitimacy of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and calls on Council of Europe and EU to stop any contacts with his “criminal government.”

Russian 2024 ‘elections’ 

Voting in Russian presidential “election” took place from March 15 to 17. On March 18, Russian Central Election Commission announced that it had “counted” 100% of protocols and that Putin had won 87.28% of the votes.

According to CEC, other candidates Nikolai Kharitonov (Communist Party) received 4.31% of the vote, Vladislav Davankov (New People Party) - 3.85%, and Leonid Slutsky (Liberal Democratic Party of Russia) – 3.2%.
