Seven words for Larry Emdur before man’s arrest

Police took out an AVO to protect the The Morning Show co-host against Victorian man Rodney Pearce following an incident at the network’s Sydney building on August 22.

A court was told on Monday that Pearce gained entry to the building by following security through a gate and then an employee into a lift.

He was escorted from the building by security and when confronted he said: “I’m here to shake Larry Emdur’s hand.”

Pearce was arrested and taken to hospital for assessment before he was charged by police and an AVO was taken out on Mr Emdur’s behalf.

On Monday morning in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court, magistrate Greg Grogin finalised the AVO in Pearce’s absence. Neither Pearce nor his legal representative were present in court.

Mr Grogin told the court the police application showed there was a good reason why the AVO should be granted.

Under the conditions of the order, Pearce must not approach or contact Mr Emdur.

He is barred from going within 2km of any place where Mr Emdur lives or works, in particular the Channel 7 building. Pearce was also charged with trespass and possession of a prohibited drug.

In the Downing Centre Local Court earlier this month, he was fined $550 after the matter proceeded in his absence. No plea was recorded.

Mr Emdur won the Gold Logie on August 18.
