60 Firefighters battle flames as huge blaze destroys 12 acres of land in east London park

Around 60 firefighters and eight fire engines were called to a grass fire at Ingrebourne Hill Country Park in Rainham.

Around five hectares of grass and shrubland were destroyed by fire in east London

London Fire Brigade Station Commander Brien O'Keeffe he said: "Local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to the heavy smoke that was created. Firefighters made steady progress in fighting the blaze."

Drones were used to transmit information and provided live images and thermal imagery to allow crews to see the best tactics to tackle the fire.

The Brigade was called at 5.44pm on Friday and the blaze was under control by 8.05pm. Fire crews from Ilford, Romford, East Ham and surrounding fire stations attended

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
