$48 million Bunnings mega-store coming to Australia

The massive warehouse ranks among the largest ever constructed by the company.

Construction is underway on a colossal Bunnings in Sydney, which is set to cover 20,000 square metres and span multiple levels.

The Frenchs Forest outlet will be the first Bunnings Warehouse store in NSW with three levels of retail, and will have parking for up to 400 cars, a sprawling outdoor garden centre, a cafe and a kids' playground.

The $48 million project is scheduled for completion within two years, and is likely to generate more than 800 jobs, but the project has already hit a number of roadblocks.

Community concerns

Ahead of construction, community members objected to the colour of the building and the prominent size of the Bunnings logo set to be displayed on the facade.

Locals also raised concerns over the impact the expansive warehouse would have on traffic flow in the area, especially as a high school is set to be constructed nearby.

Bunnings adjusts plans

As reported by The Daily Telegraph, Bunnings has taken measures to address both issues. The logo's size will be reduced by 33 per cent, several hammer emblems will be removed, and the use of green paint on the facade will be limited.

To address traffic concerns, the main driveway of the Bunnings store will be relocated to Rodborough Rd once traffic lights are installed at the intersection with Allambie Rd. This measure aims to mitigate potential traffic congestion and enhance the safety of both motorists and pedestrians in the vicinity.

The site earmarked for the warehouse was previously occupied by an Australia Post outlet and a two-storey office block, both of which have been cleared to make way for the ambitious retail venture.
