SINGAPORE — Three more patients had died from COVID-19 complications in Singapore, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Friday (25 August), bringing the total death toll here to 55.

This was the first time that MOH reported three COVID-related fatalities in a single daily report on the pandemic.

So far this month, 18 individuals had died of COVID-19 in Singapore.

The three latest fatalities were all unvaccinated against COVID-19. Of these deaths, two were non-ambulatory and had limited movement outside of their homes, but yet had been infected as unlinked cases.

An 80-year-old Singaporean man died of COVID-19 on Thursday. He tested positive for the infection on 7 August and was admitted to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital on the same day. He had no known medical conditions.

A 70-year-old Singaporean woman died on Friday from the infection. She had been admitted to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) for an unrelated medical condition on 11 August and tested negative for COVID-19 upon admission. Another test taken on 17 August came back positive for COVID-19 infection.

“She had a history of diabetes mellitus, ischaemic heart disease, end stage renal failure, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia,” MOH said.

The third fatality was a 90-year-old Singaporean woman who died on Thursday. She had been conveyed to KTPH for an unrelated medical condition on 18 August and tested positive for COVID-19 infection on 19 August.

“She had a history of cancer, heart disease, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia,” MOH said.

This comes two days after the ministry confirmed two COVID-related deaths. On Monday, MOH confirmed one COVID-linked fatality. Last Sunday, two deaths from the infection were announced.

Ten others had also earlier succumbed to the virus in August: a 34-year-old Ukrainian man on 1 August, a 58-year-old Singaporean woman on 2 August, a 79-year-old Singaporean man on 4 August, a 63-year-old Singaporean man on 5 August, an 80-year-old Singaporean woman on 7 August, a 69-year-old Singaporean man on 11 August, an 84-year-old Singaporean man on 13 August, a 64-year-old Singaporean man on 16 August, a 90-year-old Singaporean man on 17 August, and an 82-year-old Singaporean man on 19 August.
