17-Year-Old High School Senior Dies Days After Car Crash: 'Beautiful Young Girl'
“Our deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of the victim,” Duxbury Police said following Maddie Straub's death

Maddie StraubA teen who died following a car crash in Massachusetts is being remembered as a “beautiful young girl” who “just lit up the place.”
In a news release, the Duxbury Police Department said that on Sept. 14 at approximately 12:20 a.m. local time, authorities responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash into a tree on Harrison Street. Upon arrival, they found a 17-year-old girl from Pembroke — identified by loved ones as Maddie Straub — was the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle.
The jaws of life were used to remove the Straub, who was unresponsive, from the car before she was airlifted to a hospital, according to police.
However, two days later, on Monday, Sept. 16, police were notified by the medical examiner that the girl had died as a result of her injuries.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
“Our deepest condolences go out to the friends and family of the victim,” Duxbury Police said.
In a post on social media, the Hobomock Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) mourned the teen's death.
“Pembroke has lost an amazing & beautiful young girl, Maddie Straub in a car accident,” the Hobomock PTO shared in a Sept. 17 Facebook post. “Maddie lived in Pembroke and was a senior at Silver Lake High School.”
In an interview with Fox affiliate WFXT, George Howe, a board member with Pembroke Youth Baseball and Softball, said that Straub was a “sweetheart of a girl” who had a big smile.
“When she laughed, she just lit up the place,” added Howe. “She was just that type of kid — just a great, great kid.”

A Meal Train fundraiser has been established to help her family, which has raised over $22,000 as of Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Silver Lake Warriors Football, a youth football program, also said they are accepting donations on behalf of the girl's family at all Saturday home games, writing: “Your generosity and support are deeply appreciated as we come together to help them through this difficult time.”
A candlelight vigil hosted by Pembroke Youth Baseball & Softball honoring the teen is scheduled for the evening of Sept. 18.
