Are you owed a fortune? $152m of unclaimed 'forgotten cash' discovered

A $152 million pool of “forgotten cash” is being held by Revenue NSW from deceased estates, dividends, bonds and overpayments.

One person from Cabramatta in Sydney’s southwest is owed more than $1 million, but they haven’t been found.

The total fortune unclaimed by residents across the state is $152 million.

“There’s lots of money unclaimed and that’s because people simply forget to claim it,” NSW Finance Minister Victor Dominello said.

The money comes from 430,000 accounts from deceased estates, dividends, bonds, overpayments and a range of other sources.

The unclaimed amounts range from $20 in share revenue to the Cabramatta trust fund worth over $1 million.

“Sometimes the owner is hard to find – sometimes the owner goes overseas,” Mr Dominello said.

North Sydney has the most unclaimed money at $1.8 million, followed by Cabramatta at $1.7 million and Randwick at $1.6 million.
