Kyiv's Shevchenko National University, the best of 11 Ukrainian universities on the 2024 QS World Rankings, was ranked below #700, according to the list released on June 4.

Britain's Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranked over 1,500 global universities by examining 17 million scientific papers, 1.9 million reviews from academics, and 660,000 reviews from employers.

None of the other 10 Ukrainian institutions finished higher than Shevchenko University's 701-710 ranking (QS rankings institutions grouping from 600th place, saying the difference in points becomes statistically insignificant).

QS ranks the universities on the quality of teaching and research work, the share of foreign students, and the employment of graduates.

This year, the poll added another to its list of eight criteria - sustainable development, which ranks highly with the eco-conscious generation of youth looking for a university to attend.

"Among all the global rankings, ours is the only one that simultaneously takes into account the factors of employment and sustainable development, reflecting the key priorities of generations Z and Alpha," QS said.

The USA's Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was named the best university in the world for the thirteenth year in a row.

"Universities in the USA and Great Britain receive the large donations they need to fund research," explains Simone Bizzozero, director of communications at QS.

"Besides, they have extensive connections, long-standing traditions, and publish their research in English, the global language of science."
