Police say a second suspect has been arrested in connection to the December smash-and-grab ATM robbery at the RBC bank branch in Holyrood, N.L.

Jamie Kennedy, 46, of Paradise was arrested by RCMP officers Monday and appeared in court Tuesday, according to police.

Kennedy is facing several charges, including break and enter, theft over $5,000 and mischief. He was also allegedly discovered with cocaine and more than $4,000 in cash following his arrest, and faces possession charges.

The theft left the RBC branch in shambles from the impact of heavy equipment, and police say an ATM was stolen using a backhoe and then loaded into a dump truck.

Holyrood local resident Robert Crowley told The Canadian Press that heavy machinery was stolen from his nearby construction site and was soon used to break into the bank.

The ATM has since been recovered.

The event is one of several recent crimes involving heavy equipment in the province.

Police are still investigating the Holyrood incident.
