IHIT said on Saturday night that it believes the shooting is related to the ongoing B.C. gang conflict.
In an update on Sunday, investigators say the victim has been identified, but their name is being withheld until family members are notified. Authorities added that the victim was known to police, and early information suggests the shooting was targeted.
"This investigation is in its early stages," Staff Sergeant David Lee of IHIT said in a statement. "Homicide investigators are liaising with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC (CFSEU-BC) to determine how the victims are associated to each other and how this relates to the ongoing gang conflict."
Officials are asking anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage of the area between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. PT on Saturday to contact investigators at 1-877-551-4448.
