Middle-aged man's 20-metre cliff dive goes horribly wrong

A middle aged man's attempt at cliff diving off a 20-metre rock face has backfired in spectacular fashion.

Terrifying footage shows the fully-clothed man launch from a spot, fittingly known as Dead Man's Cove in Plymouth, Devon.

The notorious cliff is more regularly occupied by carefree teenagers taking on the daring activity known as tombstoning, however this sandal-wearing man was determined to prove he still had it in him.

Surrounded by fellow daredevils and onlookers, the man stands on the cliff edge, adjusts his pants for good measure and takes a deep breath before his leap of faith.

Everything seemed to be going pretty well for all of two seconds before he found himself crash landing on his back, making an almighty splash.

Cheers from the ledge quickly turned into a collective gasp.

Fortunately the man's pride took the biggest hit, emerging with only minor injuries.
