Shark attack victim mocked on US TV

Shark attack victim Adam Strange has been mocked on US television just two weeks after the deadly mauling in New Zealand.

Comedian and star of 'The Jeselnik Offensive', Anthony Jeselnik, appeared in front of photos of Mr Strange, who was killed by a great white and a bronze whaler.

"Last week, a man in New Zealand was attacked by a 14 foot great white shark”, Mr Jeslenik said as he couldn't contain his excitement about the tragedy.

"Was he killed? You bet your sweet ass he was killed - and he had a family and everything!"

The comedian then launched into a song and dance routine featuring a shirtless man covered in fake blood and leggy women in shark outfits.

Pointing to a photo of the victim, Jeselnik says, "Let's not forget the man who made this all possible - smile you son-of-a-bitch."

Mr Strange, a television commercial director and filmmaker, died after being attacked by a shark during a swim at Muriwai Beach, on Auckland's west coast.

Witnesses say Mr Strange was swimming around 200 metres from shore when he was attacked but at least one shark.

"He raised his hand up, and then while he was raising his hand up we saw another attack pull him in the water", a fisherman said.

Despite rescue efforts from local, Mr Strange couldn’t be saved as blood in the water attracted more sharks to the area.

Friends and family of Mr Strange are outraged by the attack.

"It is absolutely disgusting and abhorrent," one man told Fairfax New Zealand.

"We had hoped that if nothing was said about it, it would simply disappear without ever seeing the light of day."

"There is no humour at all in it."

The show, which does not air in New Zealand, has a strong following in the US and online.
