Schoolgirl covered in black fur by rare condition

A six-year old Chinese schoolgirl has finally been offered treatment by specialists for a rare condition that leaves her covered in black fur.

Liu Jiangli was abandoned by her parents and bullied as a child because of a coating of thick black fur on her face and across 60 percent of her body.

At age two, Liu was abandoned at a nursery by her father who never returned for her. It was after six months of announcements by the nursery that the toddler's great-uncle came forward to claim her and looked after her since.

He is worried she will always be bullied over her appearance as she has yet been unable to make friends because other children are frightened of her or make fun of her instead.

While there is no official explanation for Lui's rare condition, it is very similar to Hypertrichosis Universalis, a one-in-a-billion syndrome that completely covers sufferers' bodies in thick hair.
