A mother in central China has given birth to a 7.04 kilogram baby, possibly the largest newborn on record since the country's founding in 1949.
Chun Chun, who was born on Saturday, at the state-run Tianjin Post was delivered to a 29-year-old woman by cesarean section.
The hospital said the delivery took just 20 minutes and both mother and the baby are doing fine.
Chun Chun's father says his wife had a normal pregnancy and there were no indications that she would give birth to a big baby.
He said he was delighted by the birth which coincided with the first day of the spring season.
"Today is the first day of spring in the Chinese calendar and he's a 'dragon baby'. I feel very happy," his father Han Jingang told local broadcaster Xinxiang Television.
Guinness World Records says the heaviest newborn ever recorded was born to an Ohio woman in 1879 and weighed 10.77 kilograms.
