Woman passenger goes berserk, bites cabin crew
A charity worker allegedly bit two members of a delayed plane’s cabin crew after a fight with her husband on a holiday, a court has heard.
Carol Close, 45, had to be restrained and handcuffed during a six-hour flight from Manchester to the Dominican Republic in November last year.
The flight had a 30-hour waiting time at Manchester Airport which is said to have made Close irritable, the Daily Mail has reported.
The pilot of the Thomson Airways flight to the Dominican Republic made an emergency landing in Bermuda where police arrested her as other passengers cheered in relief, reports say.
The drama began approximately three hours after the takeoff when an inebriated Close began hitting her husband.
Cabin crew moved him to another seat, but Close then reportedly stood up in her seat and began shouting.
During attempts to restrain her, a male flight attendant was bitten and hit in the chest.
Close reportedly suffers from anxiety and depression, her lawyer Close's lawyer told Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court.
She has been handed out a suspended six month jail term and was ordered to pay $320 to the two crew.
