Mystery after woman's body pulled from water at popular beach

Police appealing to the public, hoping the can identify woman whose body was found on a Queensland beach.

Authorities are not issuing a formal statement, but a police spokesperson confirmed to Yahoo News Australia police were called to the Esplanade at Scarness in Hervey Bay just before 7am on Wednesday.

A member of the public saw the woman in the water and by the time police arrived on the scene she had been pulled from the water.

While police have said the death does not appear to be suspicious, they are appealing to the public to help identify the woman.

The woman has been described as caucasian, middle-aged with blonde-brown hair. She was wearing a black top and blue pants.

Detective David Mayes told the Fraser Coast Chronicle there was no sign of injury on the body.

"Although we don't know for sure just yet, it's likely that she had been swimming this morning," Det Mayes said.
