Man fronts court over stabbing death

Fitzroy murder victim Shaun Wright was chased for hundreds of metres before being fatally stabbed, a court has heard.

Fatah Issa, 25, appeared at Melbourne Magistrates Court charged with one count of murder.

In the brief hearing, the prosecutor alleged Mr Wright, 21, was chased for hundreds of metres before he was fatally stabbed in Johnston Street.

The court was told CCTV cameras along the route captured the chase and the stabbing.

Prosecutors said it would take police some time to collect all the footage so they were granted extra time to prepare their brief of evidence.

Issa's lawyer asked that his client receive medical treatment while in custody.

He has been remanded to appear in July, while three young co-accused will front court on Monday charged with affray.
