The family of a baby boy who died following a burglary at a Long Gully home earlier this month say they are 'overwhelmed' by grief.

Eleven-month-old Zayden Veal was taken to hospital after a burglary at the Eaglehawk Road home on Friday, June 15.

Police are treating his death as suspicious.

A statement on behalf of the family, who today farewelled the little boy at a private funeral service, said: "We cannot convey the deep pain and overwhelming feelings of grief, sadness and sorrow at the loss of our beloved child, Zayden, who was taken from us on the 15th June.

"We thank you for your concern and interest, but we also request that you allow us and our families' time to grieve the loss of our beautiful child in private at this very emotional time."

On the day of the little boy's death, his parents reported a burglary to police and a short time later he died en-route to hospital.

There had been a series of break-ins in the area prior to Zayden’s death, and police are still trying to establish if there is any connection.
