Aussie nurse may face death over drugs bust

A Melbourne nurse is due to face a Malaysian court following an alleged drugs bust which could see her face the death penalty if convicted.

Emma Louise L'Aiguille was arrested earlier this month while sitting in a car in Kuala Lumpur with a kilogram of methamphetamine allegedly hidden under the driver's seat.

The 34-year-old was arrested along with an unnamed Nigerian man and is due to face Jalan Duta Magistrates Court in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

Ms L'aiguille's Malaysian-based Australian lawyer, Tania Scivetti, told AAP on Tuesday her client was likely to be "tentatively charged" with drug trafficking.

Section 39B of Malaysia's Dangerous Drugs Act carries a mandatory death penalty for possession of 50 grams of more of methamphetamine.
