Traffic chaos after Burnley Tunnel truck crash

Yahoo!7 July 26, 2012, 11:19 am

A truck crash has completely closed the Burnley Tunnel sparking traffic chaos this morning.

The tunnel is expected to remain shut for at least an hour and traffic is backed up to the Westgate Bridge.

It is understood two trucks and a car collided at around 9.30am.

Heavy haulage vehicles have been brought in to clear the debris, and drivers are being told to find an alternative route.

CityLink's Natasha Walley told Fairfax radio: "Due to the severity of the trucks and how they're stuck together, we have had to close the whole tunnel and get tow trucks in to separate the two vehicles."

Diversions are currently in place on CityLink at Power Street.

More to come.
