'I just don't care' says crash p-plater

A texting P-plate driver who struck a cyclist and then told police she did not care about what she had done has refused to explain her careless driving, or why she was so callous.

Kimberley Davis was fined $4400 and lost her licence for nine months after pleading guilty to dangerous driving.

The 21-year-old, of Port Fairy, was travelling at 100k/ph and had used her mobile phone 44 times behind the wheel before she hit cyclist Craig Porra at Koroit on the evening of September 20 last year.

Her response when she was grilled by police two days after the accident was dumbfounding.

"I just don't care because I've already been through a lot of bulls*** and my car is like pretty expensive and now I'll have to fix it," she said.

When confronted today by a 7News camera crew, she had few words.

"I'm not saying anything."

The victim suffered a spinal fracture, had to undergo major surgery and spent three months in rehabilitation.

He also suffered a broken big toe and lacerations to his head and body.

Craig was just about to turn into a bike lane when Davis hit him from behind on the Penshurst-Warrnambool Road.

She stopped and dialled Triple 0, but failed to help Craig who was left lying beside the road.

"My neighbour came along and saw the light of my pushbike in the grass, so he came back," Craig said.

In the police interview, Davis said she was 'kind of p****d off that the cyclist had hit the side of her car'.

Craig is still waiting for an apology and says her punishment is too lenient.

"I haven't spoken to the girl, and neither has my wife," he said.

The story has even made headlines overseas.
