MEET THE TEAM

Matt White - Today Tonight Presenter

He began his journalism career at The Manly Daily newspaper in Sydney covering everything from courts to police rounds before moving to radio and joining Newcastle's NEWFM to present breakfast news.

Matt started in television in 1992 when he became the weekend sports presenter at NBN Television. Then, after a brief return to radio with Triple M, Matt joined the sports team at Network Ten as a reporter.

His natural presence in front of camera was soon noticed and he became the weekend host of Sports Tonight before joining Seven News in Sydney in June 2004. He also became co-host of Seven's then flagship sports program Sportsworld on Sunday mornings.

Matt’s diverse sports background includes work on a variety of telecasts including the V8 Supercar Championship Series, Formula One Motor Racing, the Melbourne Cup Carnival, the Uncle Toby's IronMan Series, US Open Golf tournaments and AFL Grand Finals.

In addition, he was one of the primetime anchors for Seven’s coverage of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Matt has also filled in regularly for David Koch as co-host of Sunrise.

He presented the sports segment for Seven News in Sydney - the city’s No. 1 news bulletin - alongside Ian Ross and Sara Groen, until mid-October 2008, when he took over as host of Today Tonight.

“I’m very excited about working with such a successful public affairs team,” Matt says.

“As a journalist I’ve interviewed so many people – from the man in the street to footballers and Olympians to Prime Ministers. It’s a great job. To play such a significant role in Seven’s sports coverage including the recent Olympic Games coverage continues to be a privilege. I am looking forward to the next challenge.

“I am glad my role with the network has developed since I joined as sports presenter in 2004. Since then, Seven has vastly expanded its sports coverage and I am pleased that I will continue my involvement in sport as I move across to hosting Australia’s most watched public affairs program. This is a great job and I am up to the challenge.”
