'We are not alone'

An Australian expert in UFO sightings is trying to convince everyone that we are not alone, including her sceptical son.

On a dark cloudy starless night above Britain, four mystery lights dance across the pitch black sky. It is the latest UFO sightings caught on film. By definition these mystery lights are classic UFO's: unidentified flying objects.

But after decades of sightings, lights like these have become synonymous with aliens, inter-stellar spacecraft and abductions.

Mary Rodwell, known as the "Alien Lady", is one of the world's leading authorities on alien abductions. She has counseled more than 1,700 Australians claiming to have had contact with aliens and after 20 years of research, she believes “absolutely, without question” in UFOs.

“Every six minutes around the globe someone sees a UFO. There are hundreds of thousands of people seeing them regularly, all the time, and will never talk about it,” Ms Rodwell claimed.

Mary believes it is a myth these people want to be ‘picked up’ by aliens.

"This is something that goes through all cultures and all beliefs. They don't even have to believe in this to have these experiences. Many are not star trek fanatics," she said.

The “Alien Lady” claims if she is delusional, then so are millions and millions of people who also believe.

Videos, such as one shot by Mexican fighter pilots, are difficult to discredit, but other physical signs are simply written off as delusions or pranks.

The main problem non-believers have with the evidence presented is that the vast majority of videos or photos are blurry, indistinct or out of focus.

UFO believers fear governments are keeping a secret that all humanity should share.

"I think the trouble is, because the public has been lied to for so long it is very hard for them to now take a double take and say well this must be real,” Ms Rodwell said.

“People have seen UFOs and say ‘I don't want to talk about it because nobody is going to believe me’."

Mary Rodwell has paid a high price for believing. With a failed marriage, she now risks losing the most precious person in her life – her son, Chris.

“We have had a family separation,” says Chris. "My dad really wasn't into it at all. I don't like to think of mum as a crackpot. It would be really good if she could prove to me that she isn't.”

Chris is a scientist, a vet who deals with things he can see, feel, diagnose and treat. Like all scientists he needs to see for himself.

“Mum and I have had this conflict between us. I'm coming at it from one angle; she's coming at it from the other. She’s really passionate about it. She believes. I don't," Chris explained.

He challenges his mother to prove her case.

So, in a ten-day odyssey across the country Mary will expose Chris to evidence of alien visitations, abductions, even DNA samples of supposed alien hair. And the whole thing will be filmed, the believer and non believer travelling into the heartland of UFO myth.

Mary says although she disagrees with her son, she understands his point of view.

“I'm very far down the rabbit hole and it must be really hard to be convinced when you have only been exposed to a couple of witnesses and a very, very small part of a large and complex phenomenon."

So what do these supposed visitors want?

UFO researchers believe we are being programmed, with knowledge and new abilities literally downloaded into us.

“There are a lot of people who have already had downloaded physics, quantum physics, things for free energy. All these I believe,” Ms Rodwell said.

“Many of them have certainly been downloaded to assist us to change and be a healthier planet."

After his mother’s odyssey, Chris, while still not a believer, has now stepped into his mum's rabbit hole.

Chris says: "The only certainty I have, after having looked at everything, is there is still uncertainty."
