The charges are over eleven offences relating to alleged assaults against five girls between 1985 1990.

He has been taken to Belgravia Police Station in London and will face Westminster Local Court later today.

Australian authorities are expected to apply for his extradition to New South Wales.

Investigators from Strike Force Ruskin are planning to travel to the UK. The strike force was set up after Sarah Monahan, the actress who played Hughes's on-screen daughter first raised the allegations via the media.

Monahan alleged Hughes touched her inappropriately while on the set of the show.
