It may well be the Atkins diet for a new generation with an eating plan promising to drop as much as a half a kilogram a day.

The Dukan Diet has been adopted by some of Hollywood's elite and is now seeing results here in Australia.

It is designed by French doctor Pierre Dukan and is burning up a calorie trail of media hype and hope across 20 countries.

The first phase is called the Attack Phase. For 2-7 days eat as much as you want of 72 protein-rich foods.

In the second phase dieters introduce unlimited amounts of vegetables with their lean meats and fish.


The third phase adds fruit, cheese and starchy foods and celebration meals a week.

The fourth phase follows the basic rules of phase three and continues maintaining weight loss.

Pure protein attack phase

Breakfast - every day of the week
Coffee or tea (skim milk)
Choice of 1/2 small non-fat yoghurts or 225g non-fat cottage cheese

Plus choice of 1 slice turkey, chicken or low-fat ham; or 1 egg; or 1 egg custard; or 1 Dukan oat bran galette

At 10/11am snack (if hungry)

1 small non-fat yoghurt or 115g non-fat cottage cheese

AT 4pm (if necessary)

1 non-fat yoghurt or 1 slice of turkey or both

Monday
Lunch - Hard-boiled egg with Dukan mayonnaise
Pepper steak

2 non-fat yoghurts OR 225g fromage frais/quark

Dinner - Shrimps sauteed in herbs
Tandoori chicken escalopes

Custard or 1 non-fat yoghurt

Tuesday
Lunch - Marinated raw salmon
Luc Lac beef

2 non-fat yoghurts

Dinner - Stuffed crab
Chicken with mustard

Wednesday
Lunch - Crab sticks
Chicken leg

Custard or 1 Dukan oat bran galette

Dinner - Jellied eggs and ham
White fish with white sauce

Floating island (dessert) OR 225g fromage frais/quark

Thursday
Lunch - 1 slice smoked salmon
Sauteed veal chops

Chocolate crème

Dinner - Scampi with mayonnaise
Ham soufflé

Custard or 1 non-fat yoghurt

Friday
Lunch - 4 slices wind-dried beef
Grilled swordfish

2 non-fat yoghurts or 225g fromage frais/quark

Dinner - Jellied eggs and ham
Indian chicken
Floating island (dessert) or

Saturday
Lunch - Scrambled eggs
Poached salmon fillets

Custard or 1 Dukan oat bran galette

Dinner - Moules marinieres
Lemon chicken

Meat loaf

Doctor leaves two for dead

In a cowardly and callous act, a doctor has left two young people for dead after slamming into their car and driving off in a hit and run incident.
