Now it's back and it's been rebooted, promising to help people lose up to a kilo a day while spending just $20 a week.

Holistic nutrition and lifestyle coach Michelle Nazaroff has rebooted the Kick Start diet for 2012, making it bigger, better and quicker.

There are two phases to the Kick Start diet plan.

More stories from Today Tonight

Phase one is a fourteen day metabolism reset program, using soups, fresh vegetables and some fruit. Starchy carbs are cut right back.

“What we’ve done is included a green juice - a live green juice every day, and also included a live raw green smoothie. The smoothies have the fibre intact, and also have a raw element,” Nazaroff explained.

Phase two is aimed at longer term weight loss, with a recipe plan of low G.I. foods, lean meats and fish and low fat dairy.

One diet step at a time

“We’re looking at increasing the plant based protein - so we’re not going to go straight back into high animal based eating plan. We're adding in lots of live plant based protein - fermented brown rice, Sunwarrior raw protein powder, high amounts of greens, cale, spinach - they’re great sources of protein which a lot of people don't realise,” Nazaroff said.

Best friends Gloria Mansfield, Susie Sevander and Michelle Waixall have accepted the Kick Start reboot challenge with open tuck-shop arms.

“Being a busy mum it’s hard to work on the meals and the diet. Now it’s time for me to do it. For me and my children,” Mansfield said.

“I weight 122 kilograms at the moment. I weighed myself this morning. And no, I don’t want to do that anymore,” Waixall said.

And Sevander agrees. “It’s just not coming off. The scales haven’t shown anything, but I’m hoping this diet really does something for it.”

After their last indulgent meal at their local RSL the Kick Start sisters are determined to beat the bulge.

“We’re all there for each other, and if we see one of each other falling down, the others will be there to pull them back up,” Mansfield said.
