The TVs about to hit the market are smarter than anything we've ever seen, putting a completely different slant on the concept of television viewing.

The world of television is about to get very personal.

Just when you thought TV innovators had exhausted their creative minds, along comes the Toshiba WL800A.

According to Toshiba’s Sanjay Bhardays “when it comes to facial recognition, and when it comes to mobile hi-definition linkage through the phones to the TV, we are the world's first.”

The new offering from Toshiba is TV that watches you.

Fitted with a camera and able to recognise viewers, it’s also capable of remembering their individual viewing preferences.

However, if you're still saving your money for the top of the range models, there’s some help in the meantime to narrow down the best of the best, on the market right now.

Comparing LCD, LED, Plasma and 3D televisions, Canstar Blue have put together the brands of choice, as voted by consumers.

According to Canstar Blue's Rebecca Logan, “the brands that are in our survey are probably the eight biggest brands in terms of market share.”

The results were based on a number of different criteria:
  • ease of use
  • warranty
  • service
  • value for money
  • performance
  • overall satisfaction

Samsung received five stars for overall satisfaction, and for performance, and tied the five-star rating with LG for ease of use.

On value for money Sanyo came out on top.

Sony received three stars for their value for money, and four stars for the rest of the criteria.

Finally, Hisense won for warranty and service, which, according to Logan, is something they really pride themselves on.
