An ancient formula that inspired architects and was used by Leonardo Da Vinci is now being used by modern mathematicians with a fashionable twist.

The formula is promising you perfect legs - at least mathematically speaking.

Known as the golden ratio, it's the key to calculating what's most pleasing to the eye, and you can make it work for you.

So what is the formula and how does it work?

Mathematician Lilly Serna has teamed up with stylist Lydia Saunders to put her maths theory into practice.

"The formula is the measurement from the top of your shoulder, down to the ground," Serna said.

The golden ratio is: Shoulder to floor height, divided by 1.618. You then use that number to measure from the shoulder down - and that's where your skirt should sit.
