Now the denim look is getting a modern day makeover and colours are taking over.
Stylist Georgie Campbell consults for Melbourne Central Home Top 300 Retailers and has plenty of advice when it comes to getting more bang for your buck while picking the most flattering fit.
“Go for your favourite colour or print, go for your favourite style that you love wearing and whatever grabs your attention," Georgie said.
“The smaller the pocket the more of the bottom you see. If you're heavier or wider leg, go for a boot leg - a flare is actually a perfect jean to give you balance. If you're petite, a skinny leg that is cropped - it doesn't engulf the whole body and if you’re conscious around the tummy you wear a lower top," Georgie said.
When comparing a $7 pair of jeans with $250 pair of jeans, Georgie said: “I think straight away you can see one is a thick pair of jeans, good quality, they feel really soft. With the boot-leg it’s a little thinner, but they are still very good," Georgie said.
“For style they are both perfect - you've got boot shape, and also for the style which is a skinny leg jean, they are both good for their prices."
The cheapest pair of jeans Today Tonight purchased came from K-Mart at just $7.
Head of Apparel, Andre Reich says they are selling two pairs of coloured jeans for every regular blue pair.
“We’re finding girls are buying multiple pairs and coming back for more the following week - and you can for $15”, Andre said.
The priciest pair Today Tonight purchased was Sass & Bides for $250.
“It is really comfortable. I normally spend $150, but this pair is really comfortable," Georgie said.
Around the country Big W is selling 20,000 pairs of jeans a week.
Spokesperson Rena Singh says: “Full length jeans are under $20. We also have at unbelievable value, our new crop that is under $15 and we’ve also got our little short for under $10," Rena said.
Target is selling 50,000 pairs of coloured denim every week.
Head of Apparel Amanda McCade Phillips says: “You're getting really beautiful quality at great value”.
“When it comes to denim do you get what you pay for? I think to some extent you do but this season there is so much out there, so shop with your budget, mix up the colour and mix up the print and have fun - it's spring!” Georgie said.
