The shapewear industry, led by Spanx has revolutionised the humble under garment by slimming, smoothing and hiding.

It’s no wonder Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Gwyneth Paltrow are never seen on a red carpet without one.

And now Spanx shapewear technology is about to turn gym wear on its head. Its latest range is promising you fit in with the regulars – whatever shape you’re in.

According to commentator and journalist, Melissa Hoyer, “a lot of women want to look good when they get to the gym, because they might be a bit paranoid about certain parts of their body. So if they walk into a gym feeling as though parts of their body aren't as bad as they think they are, it’s good for their whole psychology.”

But will Spanx's new gym range match the successes of its other garments?

Hoyer gives the range two thumbs up. “The Slim-X compression actually gives you the illusion of having no stomach. You've got a waist, and suddenly you've got this amazing body, and you haven't even been to the gym yet,” she said.

But it’s not all about taking away. New fashion technology is also putting back. A new range from Freya has padded bottom implants built in to boost and shape the derriere.

“As we get a bit older, and our bums start to sag, some of these have got inbuilt implants, so it just gives you that extra shape. You wouldn't think women would want more bottom, but they actually want a bit more of a shapely bottom, and something like this really gives it to you,” said Hoyer.
