A waitress in the United States has been saved from financial despair by generous customers who left an incredible $1000 tip.
Khadijah Muhammad, who works at a cafe-restaurant in Knoxville, Tennessee, faced having her power supply disconnected and had other bills mounting up.
Her financial problems were compounded when she gave up shifts to go to Ohio after her mother suffered a heart attack.
"All I wanted was to see my mother one more time," she told local station WBIR.
"With God's help, I managed to make it up there driving in the middle of the big snow storm that hit earlier this month.
"I was able to see her and she pulled through, thankfully."
When she returned home, Khadijah tried to pick up extra shifts but soon fell behind in paying bills.
That's when she arrived at work and her luck changed for the better when a husband and wife and their small child decided entered the cafe.
"They were just nice folks. I remember talking to them and having a friendly conversation like you would with a neighbor," Khadihaj said.
"They were really humble people."
The bill was $US29.30 after tax and the receipt was turned upside which is usually a sign of either no tip, a poor tip or a note from the customer unhappy about something.
"I just remember seeing a comma after the one and knew it wasn't $10. And I was like, 'Oh, my God!' And I just lost my balance and I was like, 'Does this say a thousand dollars?' I could not believe it."
The tip was for $US1,075 was money the family would usually have given to their church.
The couple told WBIR they had recently moved into the area, had not decided where to donate the money, and where impressed with Khadijah's service.
