Nigerian scam police in WA

Nigerian authorities involved in arresting a man accused of scamming a WA woman who died in South Africa are in Perth to work with major fraud squad detectives.

The two-week visit is part of a collaboration to crack down on Nigerian fraudsters fleecing West Australians of millions of dollars each year in real estate and advanced fee frauds, which include romance scams.

Major fraud squad Det-Sen. Sgt Dom Blackshaw said Sen. Det-Supt Paul Okoli and Deputy Det-Supt Daniel Danladi, from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, were both heavily involved in investigating the death of Jette Jacobs and the arrest of the alleged mastermind of an attempted WA house sale scam.

Nigerian authorities revealed yesterday that 28-year-old Jesse Orowo Omokoh had been charged over allegations he defrauded great-grandmother Ms Jacobs in a romance scam.
