UPDATE: A Gosnells father of two says he fought desperately to disarm a knife-wielding intruder who slashed his brother in the neck.
Imad Albunajim had been in his bedroom when he was alerted by his younger brother Fahid, 28, shouting “there’s a thief in the house” as he fought the armed bandit last night.
The 28-year-old father of one had disturbed the man as he ransacked the family’s Lauterbach Drive home, where three young children were sleeping, about 11.30pm.
When Mr Albunajim, 33, ran into the room, he saw his brother bleeding from the neck and wrestling with the burglar.
“I grabbed the thief’s hands and was trying pushing him outside,” he said.
“I was kicking him just to take him away from the kids.”
Mr Albunajim said the bandit was waving the knife, trying to hit anyone as he yelled at them to let him get away.
The two brothers managed to push the bandit outside, where he escaped their grasp.
“He’s like Spiderman, within like two seconds, he jumped the fence,” Mr Albunajim said.
Mr Albunajim said that after the intruder fled he realised the man had stolen his wallet as well as other relatives’ mobile phones and cameras.
“I don’t think he came to hurt someone, he came to steal,” he said.
The men’s wives and parents were also asleep in the house at the time of the incident.
Mr Albunajim said his brother was treated at Armadale Hospital for the wound but was released early this morning.
Police said the offender possibly fled in a white Ford Laser hatchback. He is described as dark-skinned, in his early 20s, skinny and between 160cm and 170cm tall.
