The NBL season is just one week old but already the Perth Wildcats are firming as championship favourites.
Installed as $3.45 title fancies by Player at the start of the season, the Wildcats have firmed to $3.20 favourites on the back of a dominant showing against New Zealand in round one.
The Wildcats thumped the reigning champions 93-72 in Auckland on the back of 20-point hauls from big man Matt Knight and league MVP Kevin Lisch.
The win sent shudders through the rest of the competition, but coach Rob Beveridge doesn't want to know about title favouritism.
"I'm not a gambler so it means absolutely nothing to me," Beveridge said.
"We're not worried about that (but) we'll take it as a compliment that people think we're a good team."
The Wildcats will have another chance to prove their championship credentials when they take on Townsville on Sunday.
The Crocs are reeling from their first-up defeat to local rivals Cairns and will be hoping to put on a better show in front of their own fans at the Townsville Entertainment Centre.
The Crocs are still waiting for clearances for new imports Gary Ervin and Larry Abney, who arrived late last week after the Crocs had sacked the disappointing Curtis Withers and Jason Forte without them having played a regular season game.
