Mac back on track for Eagles

Reigning West Coast club champion Eric Mackenzie completed his first full training session of the pre-season this morning as the Eagles made their 2015 return to the track in searing heat.

The full back finished a skills-based 90-minute session at McGillivray Oval, showing he had fully recovered from post-season hip surgery.

The temperature gauge hit 40C as the session ended.

Several Eagles struggled in the brutal conditions.

Xavier Ellis suffered heat fatigue after running laps away from the main group, while Jamie Cripps vomited out on the ground.

But the skills were generally sharp amongst the main training squad, with Beau Waters, Scott Lycett, Mark LeCras and Shannon Hurn all looking in peak condition.

Callum Sinclair (broken finger), Elliot Yeo (hand) and Jeremy McGovern (hip) were among other players to be put through their paces away from the core squad.

Scott Selwood and Jack Darling, who are both recovering from foot injuries, were restricted to walking laps.

It was the first session for West Coast in 2015, with coach Adam Simpson choosing to keep his playing group out on the track despite the temperature hitting a peak for the summer so far.
