The top five in WA Amateur A-Grade flexed their muscles in the penultimate round on Saturday.
Fifth-placed Swan Athletic had the biggest scare, prevailing by two points over Mt Lawley, who had to win to snatch fifth place.
With one round to go, the final five is set as Swan Athletic are now six points clear of Mt Lawley, and Whitford’s faint hopes were snuffed out by North Beach, albeit by a goal.
The main interest in the final round is who will finish on top and earn a rest in the first week of the finals, and who will confront North Beach in the qualifying final. Top two Wesley Curtin and University play each other at UWA Sports Park this Saturday.
In the B-Grade final round, North Fremantle and Bullcreek Leeming comfortably won virtual elimination finals in which the winners made the finals and the losers missed out.
Bullcreek Leeming, who rose from C-Grade this year, can thank a drawn game with second-placed Scarborough during the season for gaining an advantage over sixth-placed Wembley.
Scarborough sent a message to top team Kalamunda on Saturday that they won’t have it all their own way. Kalamunda lost only their second game for the season.
