Fans flock to Wildcats
The Perth Wildcats continue to break ground in the National Basketball League, setting a new membership record this week.
For the first time in club history, the Wildcats have surpassed 9000 members.
The current membership tally sits at 9012, but the Wildcats are aiming to reach 10,000 by season’s end.
“We are all humbled and grateful for your support,” managing director Nick Marvin said in a letter to members.
“We will never take it for granted, instead we will commit to continual improvement through relentless effort every day.”
Since their move to Perth Arena in 2012, the Wildcats have set the bar for NBL clubs.
They reached grand finals in their first two years at the Arena, winning the title under Trevor Gleeson last season, and are yet to play a home game in front of fewer than 10,000 fans.
The move to the Arena from the smaller Challenge Stadium has allowed the Wildcats to attract more than 100,000 extra fans each season and their home crowds are approximately double the league average.
The Wildcats broke even in 2013 for the first time since Jack Bendat took ownership of the club in 2006, and are expected to make another profit this season.
