Eagles eye cast-off Cat

West Coast will meet de-listed free agent Taylor Hunt this week as they weigh up whether to sign the dumped Geelong midfielder.

Hunt will return from a Bali holiday tonight.

He was axed by the Cats last week after playing 63 matches in five seasons.

Geelong's decision came despite Hunt being restricted to just seven games this year by osteitis pubis.

The Victorian, who turns 24 next week, is on West Coast coach Adam Simpson's radar as he looks to boost the club's midfield stocks.

The window to sign de-listed free agents opens on Saturday and closes on November 12.

Manager Anthony McConville said his client's decision to take his mother to Bali while his own career was in limbo was typical of Hunt's strong character.

"I can't speak any more highly of him," McConville said.

"I put him up there with David Mundy, (Brisbane's) Jed Adcock and (Melbourne co-captain) Jack Grimes - those outstanding citizens.

"I struggle to understand how he finds himself in this situation, but that's football and we have to deal with what we've got to deal with.

"The club that is able to get him on board won't look back. They'll find him a fantastic acquisition.

"He had osteitis pubis this year, or a form of. That really set him back and he wasn't able to get through this year.

"But he's out the other end of that now. He's 100 per cent fully fit."

Hunt's de-listing is a cruel twist of fortune after he knocked back a three-year deal from Brisbane at the end of last season.

West Coast will need to be assured Hunt can be more than a run-with player, having made his name at the Cats in that role.

"As a junior coming through he played off the wing, half-back and as a rebound defender," McConville said. "He's got excellent speed and endurance."
