Tomic walks off in shame after losing shortest match ever

Poor Bernard Tomic.

If it’s not a tendency to crumble under pressure, it’s his old man getting in brawls with training partners.

And, after a two-month injury lay-off, the Australian’s comeback made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

In the first round of the Miami Masters, Bernie contrived to lose 6-0 6-1 to Finnish veteran Jarko Nieminen in under half an hour.

The match lasted 28 minutes and 20 seconds, to be precise, officially making it the shortest in ATP Tour history. Oooops.

The previous record was held by Greg Rusedski, who double-bagelled Carsten Arriens in 29 minutes at the Sydney Invitational 18 years ago.

Tomic, 21, was the great white hope of Aussie tennis but has slipped to 74th in the world and fourth in his country, thanks to a combination of injury and personal troubles.

He has time on his hands though, and just needs to look to compatriot Lleyton Hewitt for inspiration.

Aussie number one Hewitt, 33, won his 600th career tour match on the same day, beating Robin Haase.
