Contrasting barrier draws have trainer Neville Parnham in two minds about his chances of landing a double in the two support features at Ascot today.
Barrier 15 could prove disastrous for Bippo No Bungus in the Ascend Sales Trophies La Trice Classic (1800m), but an improved draw has boosted Excelorada's claims in the Schweppes Summer Scorcher (1000m).
Parnham conceded Bippo No Bungus, a last-start winner, will need luck from the outside barrier.
Parnham's jockey son, Steven, will aim to continue his red-hot form when he pilots the mare.
"That's going to be a little bit of a task," Neville Parnham said of the wide gate.
"She'll just go back and hopefully get a run into the race.
"It's certainly done her no favours and it can be difficult from the 1800 with that barrier.
"But I couldn't be happier with the horse. Steve's riding in top form so hopefully he can weave some magic."
Bippo No Bungus is rated a $7 chance in the TAB's market for the La Trice. Elite Belle and Rose Of Choice dominate betting at $2.90 and $3.50.
Steven has dominated the Ascot summer carnival, teaming up with Ihtsahymn to win the WA Guineas (1600m), Kingston Town Classic (1800m) and CB Cox Stakes (2100m).
He will also ride Excelorada, who comes into barrier four after jumping from nine when second to Magnifisio in the RS Crawford Stakes (1000m) on December 21.
Despite rising half a kilogram to carry the 59kg topweight, Excelorada meets Magnifisio 1.5kg better from the Crawford.
"I think if he had a better gate he would have won (the Crawford)," Neville Parnham said.
"Magnifisio just peeled off his back and had the last shot at him."
Excelorada, who boasts a strong record of 10 wins from 24 starts, is an $11 chance. Magnifisio heads betting for the feature sprint at $2.90.
Parnham is hoping an increase in trips to the beach in the past two weeks will help God Has Spoken bounce back to form in today's $500,000 GRD Perth Cup (2400m).
