A goal by Andrew Krakouer with two minutes to play has helped Swan Districts snatch a one-point victory in the 2010 WAFL grand final at Subiaco.
Swans defeated Claremont 14.16 (100) to 14.15 (99).
The win ended a 20-year premiership drought for the black and whites.
Krakouer, who won the Sandover Medal on Monday night, was outstanding throughout the match and won the Simpson Medal for the best player on the ground.
The 27-year-old had 42 possessions but his 41st was the most important touch of the year.
At the 32-minute mark of the final quarter Claremont held a five-point lead. But Krakouer pounced on a loose ball in the forward line and, despite the pressure from a number of Tigers defenders, he was able to slot the ball through for his fourth goal.
It capped an outstanding year for Krakouer, who has already been linked to a move back into the AFL. He was delisted by Richmond at the end of 2007 after 102 matches. He returned to Swans this season after serving a 16-month jail sentence for assault.
But another Swans player, 16-year-old Stephen Coniglio, will have also attracted the attention of national league recruiters following his four-goal haul for Swans.
It was some spectacular work by Coniglio that enabled Swans to chase down the Tigers, who had lost just two matches all season.
Claremont looked to have done enough to seal the premiership when David Crawford took a superb mark at the top of the goalsquare then kicked the favourites to a five-point lead.
The Tigers had earlier chopped a Swans' lead through the impressive efforts of Kane Mitchell, Byron Schammer, Rory Walton and Crawford.
But then Krakouer, who had spent time off the ground with a head wound, bobbed up again at the right time to kick Swans into history.
Defender Tallan Ames was also impressive for Swans while the black and whites also got good service from Graham Jetta.
Earlier Claremont won the reserves grand final, beating East Perth 13.9 (84) to 10.12 (72).SCOREBOARD
