McGrath tempted to rejoin Dogs

Brisbane premiership player Ashley McGrath is in talks to return to his original WAFL club South Fremantle.

The 31-year-old forward is expected to make a playing return with the Bulldogs in 2015 after retiring from the AFL last month.

He has previously indicated a desire to finish his senior career with a two-year stint at South Fremantle after being drafted from the club by the Lions with pick No.13 in the 2000 national draft.

McGrath's signing would be a major fillip for new coach Todd Curley as the Bulldogs seek to rebound after three disappointing seasons when they have finished no higher than sixth.

McGrath boasts 214 games of AFL experience and kicked 170 goals for Brisbane. He played in the Lions' 2003 premiership team.

South Fremantle have also held discussions with former Essendon forward and fellow West Aussie Leroy Jetta, who quit the Bombers earlier this month.

And axed St Kilda midfielder Clint Jones is another South Fremantle product who could reunite with the club.

The 30-year-old would consider a WAFL return if he is not redrafted by another AFL club.

Jetta, 26, has returned to Perth after playing 93 games for the Bombers in eight seasons.

The 2006 No.18 draft pick managed only 10 matches in the past two seasons and his contract with Essendon was nearing an end, prompting the split with the club.

South Fremantle have axed football manager Garry Davidson as part of the restructure of the club's coaching ranks.

Bulldogs chief executive Stuart Kemp said the club was yet to decide on a replacement after choosing not to renew Davidson's contract.

Subiaco will speak to de-listed St Kilda forward Trent Dennis-Lane next week about a possible return to the Lions.

Dennis-Lane played 29 matches over five seasons, split between Sydney and the Saints, after being drafted from Subiaco at the end of 2009.
