Jarmila Groth will officially be granted Australian citizenship on Monday in a major boost to the Fed Cup team.

The Slovak-born world No.113 will be sworn in during a special conferral ceremony in Canberra, five years after she established residency in Australia.

"It's a dream come true," said Groth, who is married to fellow tennis professional and Albury product Sam Groth.

"I am incredibly excited and proud to become a citizen of this great nation, whose people have welcomed me so warmly and have made me feel at home since the very first time I came here."

Groth, who reached a career-high WTA Tour singles ranking of 57 in July, is recovering from an ankle injury suffered at the US Open.

She is on track to return to the courts in time for the Australian Open Series and is looking forward to representing her adopted homeland in international competition.

Tennis Australia's Director of Tennis, Craig Tiley, is pleased to welcome Groth as an official Australian player.

"Jarmila has considered herself an Australian since she first started training here as a teenager, so we are thrilled she has finally been able to formalise the process," he said.

Up until now Groth was ineligible to play under the Australian flag outside the Grand Slam tournaments according to WTA Tour rules.

Groth, 22, becomes eligible to play Fed Cup for Australia immediately.

Fed Cup Captain David Taylor is excited about the prospect of adding another talented player to his team.

"We have a fantastic group of Aussie girls playing Fed Cup. The opportunity to include Jarmila Groth, a former Top 60 player, into the mix adds even more strength to our team," he said.

Groth will make her Australian debut on the WTA Tour at the Brisbane International, beginning on January 1.
