Kookaburra Fergus Kavanagh said returning to world number one and a Champions Trophy gold medal would be the perfect way to forget the disappointment of the London Olympics.
Kavanagh and his Australian teammates were to play England in the quarter final stage last night of hockey’s first major tournament since the Olympics.
A Champions Trophy gold medal would send the Kookaburra’s back to world number one rankings.
The Kookaburras were undefeated heading into the quarter finals in Melbourne after pool wins against Belgium and Pakistan were separated by a draw with the Netherlands.
The Geraldton Hockey Association product said he was confident against England after recent good performances including the bronze medal match in London.
