Sterjovski set to leave Glory for China

Perth Glory midfielder Mile Sterjovski appears to have played his last game for the club.

The former Socceroo, whose three-year Glory contract was due to expire at the end of the season, will leave Perth today to seal a move to Chinese club Dalian FC pending a medical.

"Mile has received an offer which he couldn't refuse," Glory coach Ian Ferguson said.

"Perth Glory has never stood in the way of players wanting to play overseas and it's a blow to lose Mile at this stage of the season.

"But we are not the only A-League club in this situation, and the contracts players are being offered in Asia is something we can't match at the moment."

The former Socceroo joined the Glory as a marquee player in 2009, making 58 A-League appearances and scoring 15 goals for the club, after stints in France, Switzerland, Turkey and England.

His departure comes at a bad time for the Glory, who are fourth on the ladder nearing the A-League finals.

The 32-year-old has made 16 appearances this season for the Glory, scoring four goals.

Sterjovski last month told Glory they had to sort out the futures of a number of players who were coming out of contract if they were to continue to progress.

“In my opinion, if the club has ambitions for next season and to want to progress they’ve got to look at what the squad has done this year and capitalise on that,” Sterjovski said.

“It’s easier to keep a squad together than to try and recruit other players to replace them."

Sterjovski isn't the only player frustrated with Glory's reluctance to hold off on re-signing players.

Coach Ferguson said his touchline row with Steven McGarry on Saturday, after the midfielder had been taken off against Brisbane, highlighted player frustration at the ongoing contract impasse.
