Robbie Fowler has taken the unusual step of going on a Perth Glory fans website to defend his contribution to the club.
The former Liverpool and England striker, who earlier this month opted against a second year with Glory, also said he would "love to" play one final time for the club in the upcoming friendly with Celtic.
Fowler said he would play for free against Celtic if invited, but that it should not be viewed as a farewell game.
Logging on to the GloryBoys.Net site as robfow, Fowler said: "Should I get a farewell game? No I should not, no one has ever said it was gonna be a farewell game.
"The question was put to me (was) would I like to play one last game, my answer was if possible I'd love to. Not because I feel as though I deserve it, for me it's a chance to get back to Perth to say my goodbyes to the staff and players of Perth Glory, who made me feel welcome right from day one and whom I have a lot of time for and hopefully they do of me."
While Fowler undoubtedly helped raise Glory's profile during the 2010/11 season, his contribution on the field received a mixed reaction from fans as the team finished second bottom.
"I realise I was not everyone's cup of tea but I honestly felt I did ok," he said.
"Ok, I scored a few pens and only six from open play as some people keep saying, but (I) feel I contributed in terms of creating chances for others also, regardless of people thinking I never looked fit or worked hard.
"My fitness was ok and I played more minutes than most in squad. As for not working hard, just because I'm not running back and helping out at the back or sprinting all over the pitch doesn't mean I'm not working hard, it's called being clever and knowing when to run and where to run which you gain from experience."
When one fan brought up if he would be likely to receive an appearance fee should he play against Celtic at nib Stadium on July 9, Fowler said: "Stop being stupid and looking for a way to argue because I ain't gonna get into a silly argument with you.
"I guarantee I will not be getting paid to come over for the game."
