Socceroos striker Mile Sterjovski returned to Perth Glory training today and should be fit to line up in Sunday's match against Sydney FC at ME Bank Stadium.

Sterjovski had been sick since returning on Monday from national team duty in Oman and had been doubtful for Glory's clash against the A-League leaders. Coach Dave Mitchell will give his marquee man every chance to prove his fitness for Sunday's match.

"He's been sick all week so I wanted to see him in training today. I'll assess how he is tomorrow," Mitchell said.

"I'll find out how he's reacted from today. But he looked all right out there."

Flying Dutchman Victor Sikora trained at full tilt today and is in contention to return to the team after missing the previous two matches.

Mitchell will welcome back Jamie Coyne, who missed the last match because of a thigh problem, though the coach is yet to decide how to employ the former skipper.

Wayne Srhoj is suspended and Coyne could fill a central midfield role alongside Jacob Burns. Coyne could also slot into the right back role.

Although Mitchell expects a tough match against high-flying Sydney, he objected to rival coach Vitezslav Lavicka's comments this week that the visitors were preparing for a physical battle on Sunday.

"We've only had one red card and that wasn't for a bad tackle," Mitchell said of Andy Todd's expulsion for a second yellow card against Adelaide.

"(Lavicka) knows it's going to be tough coming here and he's letting his troops be aware of it and maybe letting the officials be aware of it. Certainly from our point of view we're a football team not a dirty team."

Meanwhile, Mitchell ruled out a loan move for the club's former striker Nikita Rukavytsya, who plays for Dutch club FC Twente.

Rukavytsya would have been a welcomed addition to a Glory squad that has to be prepared for the loss of Sterjovski, Chris Coyne and Burns, who declared at the start of the season their intention to head overseas during the A-League season to improve their chances of World Cup selection.

The coach said Rukavytsya, who is still battling to establish himself in the first team ranks in Holland, was unlikely to want to move away from the club in the lead-up to the World Cup.

Rukavytsya is still an outside chance of making it into Australia's World Cup squad. Playing regularly in Holland would strengthen his case.
